54th GRAMMY Telecast Earns Two Emmys
The 54th Annual GRAMMY Awards telecast received the award for Outstanding Lighting Design/Lighting Direction for a Variety Special and shared the award for Outstanding Art Direction for Variety or Nonfiction Programming with the 65th Annual Tony Awards at the 2012 Creative Arts Primetime Emmy Awards during the 64th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards on Sept. 15 in Los Angeles. The 54th telecast received six Emmy nominations this year, the most ever in one year for a GRAMMY telecast. The Primetime Emmy Awards will air on Sept. 23. (9/17)  

iPhone 5 Sets Record Pre-Order Sales
Apple reported record pre-order sales of more than 2 million for the iPhone 5 in a single day, exceeding pre-order sales of the iPhone 4S in June 2010. The iPhone 5 will be available for purchase at Apple stores in the United States beginning Sept. 21, and will be available Sept. 28 in 22 countries, including Austria, Ireland, Italy, New Zealand, Spain, and Switzerland, among others. Rihanna, Swift Top EMA Nods
Nominations were announced for the MTV Europe Music Awards 2012 with GRAMMY winner Rihanna leading with six nominations, including Best Female, Best Pop, and Best Song and Best Video for "We Found Love" featuring Calvin Harris. GRAMMY winner Taylor Swift followed with five nominations, including Best Female and Best Live. Justin Bieber and Katy Perry received for nods each, including Best Male and Best Female, respectively. Other artists receiving nods were Lana Del Rey, Fun., Jay-Z, Carly Rae Jepsen, Nicki Minaj, and Kanye West, among others. The awards will take place Nov. 11 in Frankfurt, Germany. (9/17)
