What is the GRAMMY University Network?
The GRAMMY University Network (GRAMMY U) is a unique and fast-growing community of college students who are pursuing a career in the music industry. The Recording Academy® created GRAMMY U to help prepare students for careers in the recording industry through networking, educational programs and performance opportunities. GRAMMY U is designed to enhance students’ current academic curriculum with access to recording industry professionals to give an “out of classroom” perspective on the recording industry.

What is The Recording Academy?
The Recording Academy®, creator of the GRAMMY Awards, is one of the recording industry’s leading membership based organizations. The Recording Academy has a membership of more than 18,000 recording industry professionals who encompass almost every area of music, recording technology, production and more.

What are the GRAMMY Awards?
The GRAMMY Awards are the only peer-presented award to honor artistic achievement, technical proficiency and overall excellence in the recording industry, without regard to album sales or chart position. The GRAMMY Award is voted on by the Academy’s 11,000 Voting members, which include singers, songwriters, producers, engineers and other industry professionals. GRAMMY U members are the future of the GRAMMY Awards and the key to making sure that as music and the recording industry changes, the Academy has members who reflect those changes.

Did you know The Recording Academy is a not-for-profit organization?
While best known for the annual GRAMMY Awards telecast, The Recording Academy works on a year-round agenda supporting and funding music education, archiving and preservation, philanthropy and advocacy initiatives on behalf of musicians and artists. Your membership not only brings programs and opportunities to you and your school, but also allows The Academy to bring educational opportunities to high school students around the nation through the GRAMMY Foundation. More on the Foundation can be found by clicking on the GRAMMY Foundation link or by logging on to grammyintheschools.com.

In addition to education, The Academy is deeply involved in helping members of the music community in times of need. Through MusiCares, the Academy is able to help musicians with medical issues, basic living expenses and other personal crises. In 2005, The Academy led the way in hurricane relief by donating $1 million to help rebuild the Gulf Coast music community. Today, MusiCares has helped raise over $4 million in direct relief to help bring back the native music of New Orleans and the Gulf Coast for future generations.
