The Pacific Northwest Chapter will be holding a series of new events, workshops
and seminars throughout the upcoming year. The difference is that they will only

The GRAMMY Foundation cultivates the understanding, appreciation and advancement of the contribution of recorded music to American culture — from the artistic and technical legends of the past to the still unimagined musical breakthroughs of future generations of music professionals. The Foundation offers programs and activities that engage the music industry and cultural community as well as the general public, and works in partnership year-round with The Recording Academy to bring national attention to important issues such as the value and impact of music and arts education and the urgency of preserving our rich cultural heritage. MusiCares Hurricane Relief
In response to the devastation and displacement wrought by Hurricane Katrina, MusiCares
and The Recording Academy established the MusiCares Hurricane Relief Fund, a multi-million
dollar commitment of charitable funds to be distributed to musicians and other music
industry people directly affected by this disaster. For more information about MusiCares

The Academy is a leader when it comes to protecting and advancing artists rights
and promoting advocacy in Washington, D.C. and locally in the Northwest. We work
with city and state officials and organizations whose agendas are closely aligned
with ours, such as JAMPAC, Vera Project and the Washington State Arts Alliance to
respond to issues affecting our industry.
The recording industry's most prestigious award, the GRAMMY, is presented annually
by the Recording Academy. The Pacific Northwest Chapter celebrates this night by
hosting a GRAMMY Awards Telecast Viewing Party. Enjoy watching the show, win prizes
and more!
An annual event that gathers together studio owners, engineers, producers and artists
for a summit designed to strengthen and promote the Northwest recording industry.
The Summit features a prominent keynote speaker, Northwest-based panelists and trade
tables. Past participants include Al Schmitt (Diana Krall, Duke Ellington), Nile
Rodgers (Madonna, Mick Jagger), Steve Albini (Nirvana, Big Black), Keith Olsen (Ozzy
Osbourne, Heart), Jack Endino (Nirvana, Soundgarden), Funk Daddy (E-40, Sir Mix-A-Lot),
Larry Crane (Sleater Kinney), and Glenn Lorbiecki (Violent Femmes).
High school students get a rare opportunity to observe the sound check of top artists
before their concert. After the sound check, students participate in an intimate
question-and-answer session and learn what it's like to be a professional musician.
This event is often a life-changing experience for students. Past participants have
included: No Doubt, Everclear, Ann & Nancy Wilson, Chris Cornell, Dave Koz, Joan
Osborne, Naughty By Nature and the Tragically Hip.
An annual program of the GRAMMY Foundation for high school music students interested
in a career in music featuring a panel of well-known musicians and industry leaders,
music performances by top artists, and workshops such as: song writing, film scoring,
promotions, jazz improv, higher education, touring and more! Free to schools and
students. Volunteer Recording Academy members are available as guest speakers for
high school and non-profit music programs year-round.
The Pacific Northwest Chapter offers a culminating educational experience for college
students preparing for careers in music business. All applicants for the Pacific
Northwest Chapter Intern Program must be studying music, a music industry-related
major, preparing for a career in the music/recording industry, or studying communications.
Acceptable majors include, but are not limited to, music performance, recording,
composition, music education, music therapy, music industry studies, music history,
ethnomusicology, arts administration, entertainment law, journalism and marketing.

Discounts on magazine subscriptions, insurance, movie tickets, CD duplication services
and other goods have been negotiated for members. A complete listing of the Academy

Academy members receive free or reduced entry into several events and conferences

The Recording Academy opened its 11th regional office in the Pacific Northwest in
1997. The region — home to a flourishing music industry that goes far beyond
the grunge/flannel stereotype of the early '90s — also offers world-class studios,
symphony orchestras, international music festivals and conferences such as Bumbershoot,
NXNW, Folklife, the Capitol Hill Block Party, Music Fest Northwest, Earshot Jazz
Festival, Winthrop Blues, WOMAD, and Rockrgrl. In addition, the area boasts a vibrant
jazz community steeped in history, a fresh urban music circuit, an abundance of
acoustic and new-age players and one of the strongest independent band and label
scenes in the country.
The Northwest region includes Alaska, Vancouver, B.C., Washington, Oregon, Idaho,
Montana, and Hawaii. It is the birthplace and headquarters to internationally known
companies such as Microsoft, Mackie, Audix Microphones, Soldano Amplifiers, Amazon.com,
Loudeye Technologies, Playnetworks and RealNetworks, which have changed the way
the music industry does business. Multimedia and Internet-related companies continue
to create a multitude of composing and production opportunities. The "wired
world" has made it possible for recording professionals to work internationally
and still call the Pacific Northwest region home.

Chapter members and the music community at large can take advantage of the many
educational, networking and other music-related opportunities and services that
are presented by or in association with the Pacific Northwest Chapter. Regular events
include the Annual Membership Celebration, Music Industry Bowling Bash, Northwest
Studio Summit, In the Mix and the Impact Awards, among others.
The Chapter is also an active supporter of and advocate for the MusiCares Foundation,
which focuses the attention and resources of the music industry on health, human
service and welfare issues that affect all music people. The Chapter has a very
active MusiCares committee working on spreading the word about MusiCares to those
who need help.

The Pacific Northwest Chapter is also proud to participate in GRAMMY Foundation
programs such as GRAMMY In The Schools and GRAMMY Mentor Sessions.
The Pacific Northwest Chapter is a prominent member of the music community based
on its strong commitment to ensuring that the quality of life and the cultural condition
of the Northwest music industry is a top priority in all activities. This guiding
principle has resulted in many partnerships with similar organizations and active
responses to issues affecting these areas.
Nestled between two mountain ranges on the edge of the Puget Sound, the Chapter
is located in the hustle and bustle of the Belltown District of Seattle just west
of Seattle's very own international icon, the Space Needle, and a stone's throw
away from local icon the Post Intelligencer. The Pacific Northwest Chapter
invites all of the Northwest area's music professionals and other interested people
to join with us as we continue to serve the music community.
