E-mail Specials
In supporting The Academy's greening efforts, the New York Chapter will present selected events as E-mail Specials. Invitations for these events will only be sent to Chapter members for whom we have e-mail addresses. This will also allow the Chapter to provide invitations on short notice when sending them via postal delivery is not feasible. Featured events will range from networking mixers and professional development seminars to members-only movie screenings. To ensure you will be notified regarding these special events, please send an e-mail to newyork@grammy.com with the subject line "E-mail Specials" and include your name and current e-mail address. Please also update your spam control to allow e-mails from addresses ending in grammy.com. E-mail Specials event information will also be listed on the New York Chapter Web page.

GRAMMY University Network
The GRAMMY University Network is a unique and fast-growing community of college students who are pursuing a career in the music industry. The Recording Academy created GRAMMY U to help prepare students for careers in the recording industry through networking, educational programs and performance opportunities. GRAMMY U is designed to enhance students' current academic curriculum with access to recording industry professionals to give an "out of classroom" perspective on the recording industry.

Members of GRAMMY U enjoy many of the benefits offered to The Academy's voting, associate and affiliate members, but at a quarter of the cost of membership. Annual membership in GRAMMY U is $25, compared to the $100 membership.

To join GRAMMY U, click here and begin the next step in developing your career in the recording industry.

The New York Chapter is currently accepting applications for new prospective GRAMMY U Representatives. Please call the Chapter office at 212.245.5440 for details.

After the establishment of The Recording Academy in Los Angeles, New Yorker John W. Griffin, then executive director of the RIAA, went to California to get advice on forming a New York Chapter. His challenge was to convince New Yorkers that the newly-formed Academy was more than a California organization. Because New York was a major center of the recording industry, it wasn't long before Griffin gathered many of the city's recording community leaders together to launch the New York Chapter in 1958.

The Chapter headquarters are located in the heart of the New York music industry, within walking distance of such major music companies as ASCAP, BMI, EMI Music Group, SESAC, Sony/BMG, Universal and Warner Music Group. The office overlooks Carnegie Hall and has a view of Central Park. The New York Chapter makes its facilities available to many music and arts organizations, which enjoy the opportunity to use our conference room. The New York Council of the Arts, the New York Board of Education's Visual and Performing Arts Council and others regularly hold their meetings at the Chapter office.

The New York Chapter has been at the forefront in developing events and initiatives to serve its music community. In 1995, the Chapter presented its first Heroes Awards, now known as The Recording Academy Honors. Each year, important and accomplished members of the recording industry have been honored by the Chapter at this gala event. Funds raised have been used to grant scholarships and make charitable donations as well as to support the Chapter's educational efforts. The Recording Academy Honors has become a signature event Chapter-wide.

The New York Chapter also hosts MusiCares staff. A regional case manager is on site and 24-hour assistance is available by calling 1.877.303.6962.

Each month, Chapter members and the music community at large can take advantage of the many educational, networking and other music-related opportunities and services that are presented by or in association with the New York Chapter, as well as member discounts.

For more information, please call 212.245.5440.
